Believers in the Middle East: dialogue and coexistence, what future?
For years, we have witnessed the worsening of the crisis in the Middle East, where violence seems to be taken to a sacred level by the malicious interpretation of religion. In this context, the religious leaders’ voice is pivotal to separate religion from violence.
Particularly, in the last few years, we have been witnessing to a completely new phenomenon in History: the progressive disappearance of the ancient Christian communities of Iraq and Syria, which have been overwhelmed by the most fundamentalist Islam after centuries of coexistence in those lands. Therefore, today Christians have an essential role, as they assure religious pluralism, are a decompression factor against the Islamic extremism advance and are witnesses of the love for peace and brotherhood shown even in the hardest moments of History.
In this context, believers belonging to different faiths will ponder on the future of dialogue and coexistence in the Middle East.
People from Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine will bring their testimony as they will talk to us about believers’ grief and hope in the Middle East.
